Description

In this assignment we want you to understand the history and vision of your community and the culture within which you work. You will reflect upon the experience to improve your ability to engage in conversations with team members about the (sample company) story.

Outcomes

  • Managers will contrast and compare the history and vision of your community with the other cultures represented at (Sample company) in conversations with  team members.
  • Managers will help their team members respect the differences inherent in each individual regardless of their origin.

Performance tasks

  • Given the two readings (see assignments below), identify two opportunities in which you could or could have discussed the history and vision of  your community with team members.
  • Given the two readings (see assignments below), identify two incidents in which you discussed the history and vision of (sample company) with guests and team members.

Week 1 assignment

During the next two week period, visit your community web site link below and reflect on how what you have read relates to your relationships and conversations with  your team members. Be prepared to participate in a variety of  fun exercises based on your reading and reflection in our first workshop.

  • History of your community
  • If you have time visit the other links at (add other sites to review)

Take some brief notes based on your reflection to help you with your next assignment.

"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming."
~ Haim Ginott
