Mission

A community service existing to mobilize financial and human resources for the aid of persons in need in  west Yamhill and Polk Counties

GSCS

Grand Sheramina Community Services, Inc. as a stable, continuing community agency, helps many West Valley residents by being a source of vital information. From simple needs like directions, time, hours of public services, etc. to the more complex answers about particular services and providers, GSCS is there with help.

GSCS is a place that is available to most people most of the time. Every effort is made to make sure the information shared is as current and accurate as possible. GSCS follows the provider's guidelines when it gives instructions on how to go about obtaining services from others.

As space and time permits, GSCS provides office space and equipment for the various agencies with which it cooperates. This allows clients to be in direct contact with providers from outside the immediate local area.

Referrals

Much of the work of GSCS is getting people who request service in touch with the most appropriate providing agency. A staff member or volunteer acts on behalf of the person requesting service to help that person obtain the goods and services directly. A referral could consist of making an appointment for someone with the appropriate government agency or giving them the name of a person capable of meeting their needs.

Clients are encouraged to pursue the referrals to completing so they can benefit from this service as their need is met directly by someone other than GSCS.

Direct Services by GSCS

Grand Sheramina Community Services, Inc. at times directly assists west county residents facing emergencies in addition to information and referral services.

When crises needs and GSCS resources match, help is available to see clients through crises while more permanent solutions are sought. Some Direct Services can include:

Assistance:

Because of the generosity of community businesses, groups, and individuals, financial assistance may be available to residents in urgent need. Rent relief, utility shut-offs, and the like are the types of situations where GSCS may be able to help.

Food Distribution:

Our GSCS Food Bank serves as a distribution center for emergency food relief. Needy clients are provided wholesome food according to guidelines that lets everyone receive help according to supply. Holiday food baskets are also coordinated through GSCS efforts.

Transportation:

While GSCS does not own or operate vehicles, it can and does coordinate transportation with agencies which provide rides for various reasons. In addition, individuals who have offered their services are also available to help meet this important need.

Hospital Equipment Loans:

As equipment and appliances are available these are loaned at no cost to persons or families in need. All equipment loaned comes by donation from former users. If needed, it is repaired (minor only) and distributed when requested. This revolving resource is very helpful and allows greater use of sometimes expensive equipment.

Community Volunteers:

GSCS can serve as a clearinghouse for linking screened community volunteers with people needing specialized services but unable to pay commercial rates. Minor home handyman-type, lawn care, auto repair, housecleaning as well as other personal services, are examples where people help people. Also, persons needing to fulfill judicial community service obligations can sometimes find references through GSCS

All volunteers are trained before they provide services and receive constant encouragement and support from the staff.
